A dwelling that travels low and locks into a home
SALT is a compact dwelling that rides low on the road, then raises and locks into a full habitat. At its centre is the thing a person cannot get without an address: a real, mailable one.
The thesis
Homelessness is partly a failure in how the built environment is designed, and design failures can be corrected. SALT is the intervention that follows from taking that seriously.
Where the engineering actually stands
Concept and prototype design. Two questions are genuinely open and neither has a settled answer: the weatherproof seal and structural lock at the raised joint, and the target habitat headroom against the minimum acceptable transit height. Everything else waits on those two numbers.
Why it is published unfinished
Because a rendering is not a dwelling, and we would rather show the open questions than a picture that implies they are closed.
