Privacy at Enfiaré
The short version: we ask for very little, we show only what you tell us to show, and nothing here has ever been sold or traded. The longer version is below, written so you can check it against what the site actually does.

Version 1, posted July 25, 2026. Written in‑house from an inventory of what this site actually collects and which outside services it calls. It has not yet been reviewed by an attorney. Pro bono review is being arranged, and the reviewed version will be posted here with a new date. Until then this is what we actually do, written by the people who do it.
What we ask you for
There is one form on this site, the Stewardship Pledge on the Join page. It asks for a name, a city if you feel like giving one, an email address if you feel like giving one, and a checkbox that decides whether your first name and city appear on the public wall. Nothing else is required to sign.
Your name. Stored as you type it. Only the first name is ever displayed, and only when you check the box.
Your city. Optional. Shown beside your first name on the wall when you have chosen to appear there.
Your email. Optional, and the reason we ask is narrow: so that when there is a shift to fill, a hearing to show up for, or work where a person is genuinely needed, we can tell you. It is never displayed on the site, never handed to another organization, and never sold. Leave it blank and your pledge counts exactly the same.
The public checkbox. Unchecked means you are counted in the total and your name appears nowhere.
Two things the form records on its own. Every signature is stored with a one-way scrambled fingerprint (a hash) of the internet address it came from, and with the browser’s identification string. They exist so spam and duplicate signatures can be spotted and removed. The hash cannot be turned back into an address, neither one is ever displayed anywhere, and both are deleted with the rest of your record when you ask.
If you write to us by email, we have your address and whatever you wrote, for as long as that conversation is useful.
What the server records on its own
Our web host keeps standard access logs the way every web server does: the IP address a request came from, the time, the page asked for, and the browser identification string. Those logs exist for security and for working out why something broke. They are not used to build a picture of anyone, and they are not joined to the pledge records.
What we do not do
No advertising trackers. No analytics package. No marketing pixels. This site sets no cookies of its own. We have never sold, rented, or traded anyone’s information, and we do not intend to start. You do not have to take that on faith: view the source of any page on this site and look for yourself.
Other companies your browser talks to
Loading a page here means your browser makes a handful of requests to services we do not run. Each of those sees your IP address, in the ordinary way that visiting any website reveals it.
Cloudflare sits in front of the site, serving it quickly and absorbing attacks.
Google Fonts supplies the typefaces, from fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com.
Google Translate is reached only if you open the language menu and pick a language. That hands the page to Google, and their terms take over from there. The translations are machine-made and we have not reviewed them.
Public science services feed the readings on Horizon and the globe on The Overview: NOAA, NASA, the USGS, Open‑Meteo, map tiles from OpenFreeMap, and the MapLibre library from cdnjs. Your browser calls them directly rather than through us, so those requests carry your IP just as visiting their own sites would.
The location button on Horizon
Horizon has a button that asks your browser for your coordinates so the readings match where you are standing. Nothing happens until you press it and your browser asks your permission. When you allow it, the coordinates go to the public weather, air quality, and ocean services in order to fetch readings for that spot. They are not sent to us, and they are not written into the pledge database.
What gets stored in your browser
The Horizon page keeps recent copies of those public feed responses in your browser’s local storage, under keys that begin with sp:, so it does not refetch the same reading every time you visit. What is cached is public science data. Clearing site data in your browser removes it.
How long we keep pledge records
We keep them while the organization exists, because the count is a record of who stood up and when. Ask us to remove yours and we will, within thirty days, and we will write back to tell you it is done. Removing a record takes it out of the total as well as off the wall.
Your choices
Email kazumizi@enfiare.com and we will change your name, city, or email; take you off the public wall while leaving you counted; remove your record entirely; or send you back everything we hold about you.
We honor those requests from anyone who asks, wherever they live, without working out first whether a particular statute obliges a small California nonprofit to. Doing it is quicker than arguing about it.
Children
This site is written for adults, and the pledge is not directed at children. If you are under 13, please do not sign it without a parent or guardian. If we learn we are holding a record for a child under 13, we delete it.
How the information is protected
The site is served over HTTPS. Pledge records live in a database on our host, with the credentials in a configuration file kept outside the public web folder. Access is limited to the officers who need it. We are a small operation and we will not pretend that any promise about security is absolute. What we can promise is that we collect little enough that a breach would expose little.
When this page changes
Every version carries its date. If we start collecting something new, or use what we have for a new purpose, the change is written here first and flagged on the Join page.
